RECENT NEWS: Cantabile has been invited by audition to participate in the Leavenworth Music Festival to be held April 12 and 13, 2008. We will also participate in a concert series sponsored by the Anacortes United Methodist Church on April 27, 2008. Of Love and Nature, June 7 at St. Paul ’s Episcopal, also on South 18th street in Mount Vernon , has four sets of songs, looking for love, found love, lost love and a set of songs about nature. December 12th finds Cantabile singing in La Conner as guests of the La Canner Institute of Performing Arts. An honor to be sure! Our Christmas concert is scheduled for December 13th.

Cantabile of Skagit Valley, conducted by co-founder and Music Director David Cross, is an auditioned non-professional ensemble of 20 balanced voices. Founded in the fall of 2006, the choir is in its inaugural year. “Cantabile” is an adjective, meaning songlike, or in a smooth, flowing, lyrical style. It is usually used as a musical direction for musicians to play or sing in a “cantabile” style. Cantabile performs with warmth and flexibility, and an added extra element of energy and dynamism.

Concert repertoire is drawn from choral literature which spans the centuries, from Renaissance motets through 18th century Baroque and Classical works, and Romantic-era part-songs; to masterworks of the 20th century, and new pieces featuring living composers that are culturally diverse and international in scope. Our seasonal concerts feature a balance of sacred and secular works, including time-honored classics, as well as contemporary selections. It is hoped that the choir will be noted for its interpretive skills; and for devising innovative and fascinating programs, unearthing hidden choral treasures side-by-side with the time-honored and traditional choral literature.

Sing Me To Heaven, a benefit concert for the victims of the Darfur, was performed at the Lincoln Theatre in Mount Vernon on June 1st, 2007.
